Beautiful, raw, and real.
Yo, smashing during shark 🦈🦈🦈 week (da-da, da-da) is something I didn’t think I’d see on screen—not like this. Like someone successfully engaging with intercourse during red week? Insane. And the director, Shuchi Talati, shows the mess—not the watered down, commercial version of the shit. I adore her for that. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
This was uncomfortable and tense. This affair is troubling for Vehd (played by Nardeep Khurmi), but not so much for Geetha (played by Sonal Aggarwal). The narrative is paced to perfection.
This film is empowering. Geetha is direct and in control of what’s happening. She’s directing this entire engagement. I wonder if she felt authoritative during the affair because she was confident about being the source of power. Like, they both knew the affair was problematic, but Geetha seemed to know Vehd’s wife in some capacity, giving her a bit of a leg-up in the game.
The lighting was perfect too. I’m assuming the film was all naturally-lit, but the shadows are great complements to the cinematography. Shady activities done in shadowy places and shit…lovely.
The negotiations of intimacy were interesting! From condom negotiations, to pulling-out, to instructions on how not to touch. The ranges of emotional and physical intimacy were surprising and added to that unusual sense of taboo about this entire affair. I enjoyed feeling uncomfortable watching this.
I hope to see more from Shuchi Talati!
