…THE TOWN: Loved that the marquee shouted out Oakland/SF artists.
GOOD LOOK: Daveed Diggs is so effing talented. Wonder if that freestyle walking away from Kwiktrip was off the dome. I mean, I knew there’d be some free-styling, and I feel like only he could get away with it being interwoven in the script and not come across as cheesy. Raf is a throwback to Def Poet days. They make a great on-screen combo.
ON MAMAS: Great attention to detail throughout.
SWOOP: Love the “spit take” editing. Spot on with the humor.
HELLA: Great balance of comedic and dramatic moments. This film thrives in its editing between heightened scenes. So many intense back-to-back moments: the son with the gun, the fight at the party, the fight over identity between friends, and they were all executed fantastically.
SLAPS: βWhy he gotta be bilingual. He already biracial.β πππ
CUTTY: Utkarsh in anything is bloody fun! He’s a great comedic actor. Also, Tisha Campbell’s bit roles in “under-the-radar” comedies like this film and “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” have been hilariously phenomenal.
HYPHY: The Oakland-specific convo when they sold the old boat on the side of the road was ππΎππΎππΎ.
