Broken Orchestra

A call to action.

A tearjerker for a former violinist.

A jarring metaphor of many communities, especially inner-city areas, in the United States.

A creative depiction of a problem and the effects of its result.

The testimonials were diverse and unified in expressing the main issues around why music education wasn’t prioritized, what happened to all broken instruments, and how the city came together to help. I admired that’s the city’s representatives identified the problems and didn’t hide from the facts or make excuses.

The last testimonial about the repaired bass sent me—just tears flowing. What an inspiration—to see a community of people from all diverse backgrounds and experiences from Philadelphia come together to champion a cause was motivating. Their project that could produce the next Jill Scott, or The Roots, or Will Smith, or Meek Mill, or Patti Labelle, or Hall & Oates, or Musiq Soulchild, or Eve…ya get it.

A spectacular documentary short.

Side note: I loved that all the televisions were marked “Music Department”—a nice touch.
