A tsunami of emotions I didn’t think I’d willingly subject myself to more than once, but the replay value is so high with this film.
This one was intense, yo.
It felt like a pile of bricks landed on my cold, dead little heart. This may be one of the best adapted screenplays I’ve come across in a very long time. It may be hyperbolic to say both works, book and film, are life-altering, but fuck it, they are.
Timothée Chalamet was robbed at the 2018 Academy Awards, but he’s coming for his gold doubloons. A great, young talent. I can’t see anyone other than Armie Hammer playing his counterpart. The duality of their subtle performances was genuine and heart-breaking.
I fear that if I ‘hype’ this, then it won’t be appreciated so I’ll leave this review pleading for more adaptations like this.
Oh, and the soundtrack is one of those where you immediately visualize the entire film. So again, I can’t subject myself to it unless I know I’m in need of a good, ugly cry. Like a Kim Kardashian losing a diamond in the ocean-type cry.
