The opening tribute was beautiful.
So they really packed on the ’90s’ for this one. It took me like twenty minutes to realize they intentionally stylized the comedic one-liners and some of the trope-y action scenes as an homage to the 90s-era action movies—**respect knuckles**
I really enjoyed the mechanics of her suit. The CGI budget had to be out of this world for this film, and it was really worth it—beautifully done! They really de-aged the absolute hell out of Samuel L. Jackson with zero lapses. Technology is a helluva drug.
So, the plot, post-climax, was a little predictable. The introduction was a little wonky, but not too, too bad.
I did have a weird thought during one of the action scenes–my mind:
“I’d love to design a ‘Captain Marvel’ coaster.” 😱 Like in Roller Coaster Tycoon.
Then I started imagining an entire MARVEL theme park, kinda like Universal Studios but updated and designed by moi!:
A ‘Dr. Strange’ motion simulator theater-type thing, a ‘Black Panther’-themed water ride where Erik Killmonger (safely) throws you off a waterfall cliff thingy. A flying thingy where you’d weild Thor’s hammer. A space-themed something with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Cute, real-real cute.
Brie Larson was a fantastic choice for this role. I was a little skeptical when they first announced she’d be portraying the character, but I thought she murked it. I hope there’s another solo film on the horizon.
Also, dope soundtrack. I’d usually say there was a bit of overkill on the nostalgia, but I won’t. The 90s was a very “extra” era, so bring it on, and bring some mo’.
