Thank you for putting me on to Da’Vine Joy Randolph!! What a gorgeous actress with an immediate presence. As soon as she came on the screen, I knew she was a star. I need to see her more. Her name says it all: “Da’Vine Joy!”
Ruth E. Carter is a master at these costumes bruh. She PUT HER FOOT in this. I mean, she’s a legend, we know this, so I wouldn’t expect anything less than perfection. IMHO, she should’ve received her second Academy nomination in a row this year for this work.
High praise for Eddie Murphy! This is one of those roles I didn’t know I needed, but glad happened. Also, highest praise for this cast! I couldn’t have asked for a better balance of talent. Each character was so fitting! Mike Epps low-key killed this role! Man, Wesley too. Honestly, this movie proves more and more than the various academies that honor outstanding achievements in the cinematic arts should resurrect or introduce a category honoring the producers who find the great ensemble casts.
To reiterate, Eddie killed this. This film was fun, and even a nice history lesson. I think it should motivate the cinematic arts to continue to appreciate, recognize, promote, and praise the indie film greatness across cultures because in due time the industry’s “big names” will likely to adopt, adapt, and never provide proper recognition to its source inspo.
