So, for the first time since Cats (2019), I gotta hit Fantasy Island with:
I thought it was a parody, and expected for Shawn and Marlon Wayans to pop up! Bruh…what in the actual fuck was that!!!?
I had to save face throughout the entire screening because my theater neighbors were really enjoying themselves, and I didn’t want to ruin the film for them.
Here’s a collection of the faces I made throughout the film:
and…
…oh, and…
…one more…
Def hit the watch-check at the 15 minute mark.
Definitely one of the top three worst films I’ve seen the last five years. It was so bad that I ended up enjoying the experience in the end. I mean, Fantasy Island had a least two redeeming qualities: first, the audience only got the iconic Tattoo “The plane, the plane” references at the end, as to not overdo it; and two, Maggie Q tried her absolute best with the screenplay she was given. I applaud you, sis! #shetried
I remember seeing a roundtable with Jason Blum (Blumhouse Productions) following the massive success of Get Out (2017), and he described the business model of producing and distributing low-budget horror films as a “cash grab” to help fund other projects. It works for Blumhouse! Not mad at it, but I don’t think I’ll subject myself to any other super-trope-y, low quality horror films for a while!! (If I can help it!)
