Father of the Bride

This might be one of my favorite shorts I’ve seen in a while.

Brilliantly acted and edited. The tension during the bathroom assault was incredible, and the aftermath during the wedding toast and the afterparty felt palpable and sincere.

The ball graze that the father of the bride Martin (played by Dominic Mafhan) gave to the groom’s brother Christian, brilliantly portrayed by Jay Lycurgo, and accompanying (and seemingly acute) follow-up “…just call my daddy” was S P E C T A C U L A R.

I sensed it.

I knew that line was coming—I could just feel it, given Christian’s constant fidgeting and drinking during Martin’s speech attempting to calm his nerves.

The writing. The acting. 🔥🔥🔥

Christian was already anxious about delivering this toast, but post-assault you could see the life drained from his body and that his confidence was completely shattered. And it translated when he gave a tone-deaf crack during his best man’s speech; it don’t go over well with the audience. The muted reactions of the guests helped outline the tension in the moment, and it was not overdone. Shouts to the directing, editing, and cinematography.

We need more narratives like this. I commend the director/writer, editor, cinematographer, and actors for such a great piece of art.
