Simplistic and experimental, “In the Future” explores the answer to the question “What do you think the future will be?” with all responses presented in a variety of dialects (even computer-generated messages) beginning with “In the future,…”
.
I appreciated the simplicity of the motioned cutouts surrounded by different biome backdrops while the cohort answered the question.
Responses ranged from how some hoped human behaviors might change, how personal identities might be more accepted or appreciated, how all manner of touch will be consensual, to hopes of how the planet may change for the better, and how human and non-humans could expand the planet’s natural resources.
.
With a short runtime, the film illustrated generational, societal, social, and environmental diversity in response to an ordinary question.
.
“In the Future” is a sociological + artistic experiment, and it’s evocative.
