Aight…so.
I couldn’t wait to see this film, and it hit shawty in her heart bone. A24 rarely disappoints, if at all. I love that they allow artists to be free and create their shit, and actually DISTRIBUTES IT…
This was a gorgeous directorial debut from Jonah Hill. I can tell he took his time with this one. Bravo, you legend! You killed this!
I’ve never rode a skateboard in my life, so I can’t pretend to imagine what those injuries are like. But I do recognize and identify personally with the underlying themes of this film. Part F.O.M.O culture, part angst of adolescence, Hill found teens who could vividly and accurately portray the struggles of socioeconomic stressors, civic disobedience and the thrill of not growing old too quickly. I applaud the honesty of the obscenities and derogatory language used–totally reflective of the time.
There were some moments where the sound editing irked my soul. 😔
P.S. Lucas Hedges is in every thing. And Lucas Hedges is everything; iStan for him, k’bye.
