Onward

Pixar knows how to make the eyes misty. They are second to none when it comes to building a story, keeping the details linear, referencing nuggets throughout, and just providing the audience with a satisfying conclusion.

Shouts to Disney/Pixar for the representation in this! Onward featured a female cyclops referencing her girlfriend 🌈🌈, we had a goblin thingy who was differently-abled, we had a purple teen girl with a natural poof, and I loved it! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Even though the characters were not humans, the creatures were anthropomorphic, and I applaud Pixar/Disney for the strides towards inclusion.

With all this said, this was not a “top-tier” Pixar film for me. Like, I’m not gonna think about or reference this movie throughout my daily life like I randomly do with WALL-E and Monster’s Inc. (yes, I’m an almost 30-year-old child).

I say if you’re a Pixar fan, take a gander. But I’m more excited for Soul dropping in June.  If you wanna take the kiddos to see this one, I’d recommend! The story has great universal messages about being assertive, having confidence in yourself, recognizing personal blessings, and to treasure the folk around you.

Honestly, I’m surprised they didn’t use this film as a vehicle to boost Disney+ accounts. Not to say it won’t recoup its budget, it’s always possible it won’t, but I’m surprised Disney had this on the calendar during the first quarter given the upcoming drop for Mulan, which cost an astounding $200 million to produce. 👀👀👀
