Raya and the Last Dragon

Omg! Disney!!

It’s so pretty! I can’t take it!

The color palette for each tribe!

The voice-over actors!

The visual effects!

The landscapes!

The melanin!!

The score!

The sound editing and mixing!

The plot! 🐉

Raya and the Last Dragon is my new favorite thing. 💙💚💙

.

How dare Disney give us a delightfully-beautiful narrative about acceptance and teamwork and navigating prejudices? Just putting the medicine in all the candy like those vitamin gumballs. 🥰🥰

Awkwafina’s voice was perfect for this!

And that chain-linked swivel sword!! Whew! I want one. (mine.)

I would’ve loved to see this film on the big screen. I hope folks who do see it get to experience it in a cinema. It’s so beautiful. I laughed. I shed a few minor thug tears.

It’s a gorgeous film, top to bottom. And they got Jhene on song in the closing credits!! I hope they leave this story be, and don’t sequel it to death. 😟😔

It’s a really well-done animated feature. But, in my three-card scores, I’d give it two 10s and a nine for two reasons:

🔮 I’m noticing a pattern in Disney/Pixar’s storytelling. I’m not mad at it—it’s formulaic, but it works!! “Raya and the Last Dragon” is giving the kid high-replay value energy. But I’m hoping Disney switches up the ABBAB (happy-sad-sad-happy-sad), paint-by-numbers screenwriting soon. The rose is wilting 🥀 The arc was giving “Onward”-lite, but better. 🥴 🥴

🔮 The transitions were not as natural as I would’ve enjoyed, but it didn’t tamper with overall flow.

Good action. 👍🏾 👍🏾

Good’t story. 👍🏾 👍🏾

Visually-striking. 👍🏾 👍🏾

It works!
