Dawg, I wept. Pixar rarely takes an L. Their sequels have been duds lately, but for this THIRD sequel, I think they killed it. You can tell they know how to storyboard and finds those pockets to pull at your heart strings.
The fluffy unicorn Buttecup (voiced by Jeff Garlin of “Curb Your Enthusiasm”) was trill AF. If they ever make a “Toys from the ‘Hood” spinoff (they would never, but that’s a dope idea), he’d be the OG toy’s best friend from the ‘burbs.
Duke Caboom = B R I L L I A N T. Shouts to Pixar for riding this Keanu 🌊🌊🌊 we’re all on and don’t want to stop. He was perfect.
Actually all the voice actors were great! So glad they incorporated the creepiest of dolls, ventriloquist dummies, in this feature—their introduction was phenomenal. Loved that the villains were formidable, but lovable.
Also, Pixar as a whole understands the meaning in a moment. The score is always on point, the lighting be flawless, the anthropomorphic characterizations of toys are insanely realistic. I held back thug tears then embarrassingly let them loose on the way out of the cinema.
Dawg, I remember seeing Pixar’s first full feature film, Toy Story, in theaters in 1995 at a whopping five years young. It feels strange to reflect on a journey of one studio’s film series. The magic of movies for me is recollecting on how those pieces of cinema made me feel when I first seen’t them. Trying to remember who I was with and how I reacted—it’s a thrill. Anyway, recollection time over.
So for my “classic or trash” shawties, this one is a banger. If I’m ranking the series (worst to best):
- Toy Story 2
- Toy Story*
- Toy Story 4
- Toy Story 3
*Technically and factually (😏), the original is the “best” one. But, you know…critics and their opinions lol
