A list-ical of things I love about films from the 1930s/40s:
1. Love the dissolve transitions of movies past. I miss it.
2. Pan-ins against dark shadows— romantic AF.
3. The acting histrionics—it’s funny to watch. It’s distinct. Has a twinge of over-acting spirit like a musical stage play—something that would be totally appreciated in that medium today, but not so much on film.
A list-ical of things I loved about this film:
1. The variations of “Auld Lang Syne” and “Swan Lake” throughout were enticing.
2. Vivian Leigh really acted with that damn eyebrow.
3. Incredible, and ironic, climax—looking for a john, and ended up finding her john.
4. The post-climax reflection of how Myra’s (Leigh) harbors guilt was cool.
5. Omg, showing a handwritten letter as a transition tool! Sign o’ the times!
6. Virginia Field was dope in the supporting role.
7. Robert Taylor’s mustache looked funny. 😂😂😂
